A great mental model when searching for candidates is to imagine Kaiya has access to Google for LinkedIn and/or Invenias.

When you search the web using Google, you get the best results if you search for words and phrases you think are likely to appear in the web page you are looking for

Kaiya works the same when searching LinkedIn or Invenias.

Therefore a good set of search criteria when using Kaiya to find great candidates are likely to be found in a single ideal candidate's resume and/or LinkedIn profile.

You can iterate searches with Kaiya using alternate criteria to build a complete list.

The basics

Your search criteria should be a set of words or phrases that are likely to appear in a single ideal candidate's profile.

Generally, you should consider including:

  • Job Title
  • Industry Experience
  • Qualification
  • Location
  • Set of achievements

You can provide Kaiya with your search criteria in several ways:

  • Enter your criteria directly in the chat
  • Share a relevant document, such as an assignment brief or job description
  • Ask Kaiya to help create a seed document, like a job description or an example candidate profile
  • Get a list of candidates based on your Target Company List

Example prompt: Providing Kaiya your exact search criteria

Tell Kaiya the criteria you would like in your ideal candidate, along with the number of candidates you are looking for

info

Kaiya can return up to 100 candidates from LinkedIn or Invenias

You:

Find me 50 candidates in both Invenias and LinkedIn with the following criteria: Job title Vice President IT, Location in Mexico, should have Technology industry and M&A experience.

Kaiya:

I'll search for 50 candidates with the title: Vice President IT, located in Mexico with Technology industry and M&A experience...
tip

When you are searching for candidates in countries where multiple languages are spoken it's worth asking Kaiya to do separate searches in those languages.

This is because candidates could have their profile or CV/resume in either English, their own language or another relevant language. Kaiya can translate the search for you.

You:

Now try the same search in Spanish.

tip

Kaiya will always provide a spreadsheet with all the results. You should check this spreadsheet. Just like the results of a google search, your best results may not be at the top of the results

Your experience of what to search for when looking for candidates will be much stronger than Kaiya's. Kaiya may not understand the nuance of seniority of job title by region or the nuance of what a job title means in a particular industry.

Kaiya excels as a collaborative thinking partner during your search process. You can ask Kaiya to help brainstorm search criteria, or provide information that will help Kaiya formulate effective searches. For example, you could ask for Kaiya to create or provide Kaiya with a:

  • Job description
  • Concept candidate profile
  • Assignment Brief
  • Search spec
  • Profile of existing candidate or incumbent

For example:

You:

Imagine 3 ideal candidate resumes for the following job description…

Kaiya:

Let me think through three ideal candidate profiles for your job description...

You:

Now run a search in LinkedIn and Invenias for 100 candidate with the characteristics of the first ideal candidate resume you created.

When you already have a Target Company List You can ask Kaiya to use this to find relevant candidate.

You should break the search down by company, and then by job title. Ask Kaiya to conduct an individual search for each.

You:

Take the attached list and create individual searches for Chief Information Officer for each.

I'd like you to search LinkedIn and Invenias and report back to me when you have found the first batch of candidates.

We should keep a running list of the best candidates as we work through the searches.

Remember, search works best if you include a set of terms likely to be found on an individual profile, so if Kaiya combine many company names in a single search you may end up with candidates who have worked at some of those companies, but don't have the correct job title, experience or location.

note

Kaiya will produce a spreadsheet for each search. Once Kaiya has completed your search you can ask Kaiya for a summary of the best candidates from all the searches in a spreadsheet

When you have exhausted your list of target companies. Ask Kaiya for an expanded list of companies, and you can continue your search.

Dealing with poor search results

If the results aren't quite right, ask Kaiya to think through some alternate searches. Here are a few approaches to improving results:

  • Ask for the exact set of search terms used - Look for combinations of terms unlikely to appear in a single profile and adjust the search criteria
  • Expand or contract abbreviations / acronyms - e.g. try searching both IT and Information Technology in different searches
  • Retarget your search - if you are getting lots of irrelevant results, it could be that there are few people with all the characteristics you are looking for. Equally there may be thousands. Reframe your search to focus in on your ideal candidate persona, Kaiya can quickly iterate searches for alternate characteristics
note

Kaiya can only return results based on the content of a profile. If information is included in an Invenias or LinkedIn profile, Kaiya won't return that candidate, even if you know they are right.
